Why these guides exist
On almost every site visit, the same handful of questions come up. What makes one roof cost more than another? Is fibreglass better than rubber on a flat roof? Do I need the council's permission? Is this stain in the bedroom ceiling something serious? Lee Draper, who runs Authentic Building & Roofing from Witham, answers these on doorsteps across Essex every week, so he has written the answers down.
Each guide is general advice, written in plain English. None of them can replace somebody actually looking at your roof, because two houses on the same street can have very different problems. Use them to get your bearings, work out what to ask, and feel more confident when you compare quotes.
