Roofer in Romford

Terraces, semis and rear extensions on tight residential streets: Romford roofs come with their own challenges, and we plan around them.

Covering Romford on the Essex side of London

Romford sits at the London end of the A12, on the Essex side of the capital's outskirts. Although it is part of greater London, it shares a great deal with the Essex towns we work in every week, and it is firmly within the area we cover from our base in Witham.

Owner Lee Draper oversees every job, so Romford customers get the same person from first visit to final check, rather than a salesperson followed by a crew they have never met.

Terraced and semi-detached roofs

Much of Romford's housing is terraced and semi-detached, a lot of it built in the first half of the twentieth century. Those roofs are now often on their original battens or wearing tiles that have been replaced piecemeal over the years. On a terrace, the roof also has to tie in neatly to the neighbours on either side, so the party wall details need care.

Where a few tiles or a ridge need attention, our roof repairs can sort it out. Where the whole slope is tired, a re-roof replaces the felt, battens and covering in one go. Lee will tell you honestly which you need.

Flat roofs on rear extensions and dormers

Single-storey rear extensions and loft dormers are a common sight across Romford, and the flat roofs on top of them take a lot of weather. Old felt often splits along the edge where it meets the house wall, and water then finds its way into the kitchen below.

We replace these roofs in GRP fibreglass or EPDM rubber, finishing the junction with the main house properly so it stays dry. Read more on our flat roofing page.

Roofline: fascias, soffits and gutters

On busy streets, rotten fascias and leaking gutters are easy to overlook until water starts staining the front wall. We replace timber boards with low-maintenance uPVC and fit new gutters and downpipes. If scaffold is already up for roof work, it makes sense to do both together. See our guttering, fascias and soffits page.

Access and parking on busy residential streets

Working on a terrace in a busy part of town needs a bit of planning. Parking may be tight, scaffold may need to sit over a narrow front garden or footpath, and materials and waste have to be handled without blocking the street.

Lee talks through access at the site visit, including where scaffold will go and where materials will be kept, so you and your neighbours know what to expect. We keep the work area tidy and clear up at the end of the day.

Working with neighbours in mind

On terraced and semi-detached streets, roof work rarely affects just one house. Scaffold may need to sit close to the neighbouring property, and the new roof has to join up cleanly with the roof next door. Lee is happy to explain the plan so you can let neighbours know what is happening and when.

We take care at the party wall line so there are no gaps or untidy joins where your new roof meets the old one next door, and we keep noise and mess to a minimum during the working day.
