Repairs, not a new roofline

This page is about fixing the gutters you already have. If your fascias are rotten or you want the whole roofline renewed in uPVC, see our guttering, fascias and soffits page instead. Often, though, a gutter that drips or overflows only needs a targeted repair.

Common gutter faults we fix

  • Leaking joints, where the rubber seals in plastic gutter unions have perished or the sections have pulled apart
  • Sagging runs, usually from missing or broken brackets, which let water pool and spill over the front
  • Gutters with the wrong fall, so water sits in the middle instead of running to the outlet
  • Cracked or split sections, often from ladders leant against them or ice in winter
  • Blocked or disconnected downpipes, and offsets that have come apart at ground level
  • Overflowing gutters at valleys, where a large roof area drains into one short run

Why a roofer is useful for gutter repairs

Gutters do not work on their own. If the roof underlay or felt at the eaves does not reach into the gutter, water runs behind it and down the wall, and no amount of new sealant will stop it. A roofer and gutter repair visit lets us look at both together.

We also check the tiles and ridge while we are up there, and tell you if anything else needs attention. If it does, our roof repairs service can usually be done on the same visit.

Blocked gutters and moss

A lot of overflowing gutters are simply full. Moss washed off the roof, leaves and silt build up over the years until the outlets block. We clear them out and flush the downpipes. If moss on the roof is the source, our roof cleaning page explains how it can be removed without damaging the tiles.

What affects the cost of a gutter repair

Gutter repair prices depend mostly on access and how many faults there are. A single leaking joint on a bungalow is quick; several sagging runs on a three-storey house may need a tower or scaffold. The material matters too, as older cast iron and some discontinued plastic profiles are harder to match. Lee will give you a written price before any work starts.

Signs your gutters need attention

You do not need to climb a ladder to spot most gutter problems. Look for water pouring over the front edge in heavy rain, green streaks or damp patches on the wall below, plants growing out of the gutter, drips from joints after the rain has stopped, and a run that visibly dips between brackets. At ground level, check the downpipe shoe or gully is not blocked. If you see any of these, a quick repair now can save damage to brickwork, fascias and foundations later.
